FAQ

Before you ride

How do the comfort tiers work?

The route can stay the same while the overnight comfort changes. Explorer keeps things simple and local, Adventurer adds more comfort where the route allows, and Premium uses the best available stays on that itinerary.

When is the best time to ride Northern Vietnam?

March to May and September to November are usually the most comfortable windows for the mountains. The weather is never fully predictable in the north, so we adjust the pace and route if fog, rain or road conditions make a change smarter.

What riding experience or licence do I need?

You should be a confident road rider before joining a self-ride tour. Mountain roads can be narrow, wet, steep or broken in sections. A valid motorcycle licence and suitable travel insurance are strongly recommended, and some bike categories may require more experience.

Are the mid-range ADV and BMW bikes suitable for beginners?

No. The bigger adventure bikes are best for experienced riders who are already comfortable with weight, height, clutch control and slow-speed handling. Beginners or less confident riders are usually better on the XR150L or a 250cc trail bike.

Which bike should I choose?

Choose the XR150L if you want something light and forgiving. Choose the KLX250 or CRF250L if you want more trail ability. Choose a mid-range ADV for longer touring comfort. Choose the BMW adventure class only if you are experienced and specifically want a premium large-bike ride.

What is included in the price?

A standard quote can include guide support, selected accommodation tier, route planning, daily ride briefings, local support and core tour logistics. Meals, fuel, permits and bike choice should be confirmed in your final quote because inclusions can change depending on route, group size and bike category.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Please arrange travel insurance that specifically covers motorcycle riding in Vietnam and the engine size you plan to ride. It is worth checking the wording carefully before departure, not after something goes wrong.

What happens if there is a mechanical issue on the road?

The guides will first try to solve small issues on the spot. For larger problems, we work with local mechanics, support contacts and replacement options where possible. Remote riding always carries some risk, but the tour is planned with practical backup in mind.

Can you help with luggage or a support vehicle?

Yes, for suitable private groups. Some riders prefer to carry only a small day bag while the larger luggage moves separately. Support vehicle availability depends on the route, group size and season, so it is best arranged during the quote stage.

What should I pack and what gear is provided?

Pack light. Bring breathable layers, a warmer layer for high mountains, rain protection, compact luggage, personal medication and your preferred riding gear. Helmet and basic gear options can be discussed, but serious riders often prefer to bring their own fitted equipment.

How do deposits, payments and cancellation work?

Once your route, dates, bike and comfort tier are agreed, we confirm the deposit and balance schedule in writing. Cancellation terms should be reviewed before payment so both sides are clear on what is refundable and what is already committed to accommodation or logistics.

Can non-riders join the tour?

Yes, depending on the route. Non-riders may be able to join as passengers with suitable riders or travel in a support vehicle on private tours. Tell us the group mix early so the route and daily distances make sense for everyone.

Can you build a tailor-made route?

Yes. Share your dates, group size, riding level, preferred bike, comfort tier and must-see places. We can then shape a route around the experience you want instead of forcing your group into a fixed itinerary.
